The PRS HDRX20 is a 20W tube head paired with a 1x12 cabinet, designed around circuitry studied from one of Jimi Hendrix's personal amplifiers reportedly used at Woodstock. Paul Reed Smith and amp designer Doug Sewell reverse-engineered the legendary tone, translating late 1960s British-inspired character into a lower-wattage package that breaks up organically without sacrificing clarity or punch. The indigo blue finish marks this as a limited edition release. Two 5881 power tubes drive the amp, chosen for their lower wattage, compact footprint, and articulate voice that thickens tone while maintaining definition. The internal signal path includes a 3-band TMB tone stack, 2-way bright switch, high-mid gain switch, and presence controls mirroring the historic circuit. Internally bridged channels with individual treble and bass volume controls eliminate the need for jumper cables, letting players blend lead and bass channels for precise distortion shaping. A new Master Volume control manages the power amp section, giving players transparent output control without external attenuators.
