The Electro–Harmonix Big Muff Pi 2 is a long–lost fuzz circuit brought back to life, rooted deep in EHX history. Originally designed in the late 1970s by Mike Matthews and legendary inventor Bob Myer, this dual op–amp Muff never made production and was quietly filed away – until its rediscovery decades later.
Unearthed as a hand–drawn schematic by Josh Scott of JHS Pedals and artist Daniel Danger, the circuit was carefully decoded and reborn as the Big Muff Pi 2. While it stays true to the unmistakable Muff identity, it delivers its own voice with a crispier top end, booming low frequencies and a slightly rougher, more dynamic clipping character.
With singing sustain and generous gain on tap, the Big Muff Pi 2 feels raw, expressive and unapologetically fuzzy. It is slightly more touch–sensitive than classic versions, making it a standout choice for players who want a familiar Muff foundation with extra bite and attitude.
Housed in a compact nano die–cast enclosure and finished with artwork by Daniel Danger, the Big Muff Pi 2 features the classic Volume, Tone and Sustain controls. A modern addition brings silent true bypass with latching or momentary footswitch operation, allowing everything from traditional on/off fuzz to short bursts of chaos.
