Electro-Harmonix's Deluxe Bass Big Muff Pi 2 is a distortion and sustain pedal engineered specifically for bass guitar, blending vintage fuzz character with modern noise gating and crossover filtering. The core appeal lies in its dual-signal architecture: a blend knob lets you mix dry and distorted signals in any ratio, keeping your low-end definition intact while layering aggressive overdrive on top. This approach solves the classic problem of bass distortion pedals that sacrifice bottom-end clarity for sustain.

The pedal runs on 9VDC (45mA draw, centre-negative) and houses six main controls plus two footswitchable circuits. The sustain knob adjusts distortion and fuzz intensity, while a dedicated tone knob shapes the effect from deep bass to bright treble on the distorted signal only. A noise gate with adjustable threshold (gate knob, 0 to full) cleans up low-level noise; the HPF crossover circuit filters the distorted path from 115Hz to 1kHz, and the LPF crossover filters the dry signal from 60Hz to 10kHz. Dual outputs include main (550Ω) and direct-out (550Ω buffered) jacks, plus an input attenuator switch (–10dB for active pickups, 0dB standard). Two footswitches control effect and crossover independently, each with hold-to-revert momentary action and status LEDs (red for effect, green for crossover).
