One of the most prevalent tonewoods used by fine high-grade instrument manufacturers today, Blackwood (Acacia Melanoxylon) is an incredibly decorative timber found in AustraliaÕs south-eastern regions. Blackwood was first sourced by AustraliaÕs Indigenous populations centuries ago to make spear-throwers and shields and is commonly used today to create furniture, cabinets and even boats. Most of the Blackwood sourced for Instrument manufacturers comes from plantations in the Otway Ranges in Victoria.

It produces a warm, full tone and is exceptionally rich in the midrange, with many players and makers comparing BlackwoodÕs tonal qualities to that of Koa. Blackwood is also known for being a rather stiff timber thatÕs perfectly suited for percussive playing and is renowned for handling climate extremes better than many other Australian tonewoods.

The all-new full solid Australian Blackwood top, back and sides now made by KALA, exclusively offered only in Australia. This full solid body offers a full and resonant tone, complemented with accurate intonations and overtones. Built with a slotted headstock and beautiful inlays on the fretboard, topped with a light satin finish. This model is also equipped with the Fishman Kula System pickup, to amplify your playing or recording uses.
