The MD70e is a flagship all-solid Dreadnought built for players who demand power, clarity, and an immediate response. Inspired by the success of the MD60, this rosewood version takes everything flatpickers and strong strummers love and pushes it even further.
From the first note, the MD70e feels alive. Its rosewood back and sides deliver a deep, resonant low end, beautifully matched with bright, articulate trebles. Thanks to the AAA Sitka spruce top and FS6 forward-shifted bracing, the guitar offers superb clarity and separation—even under a heavy right hand—while maintaining an impressive balance across all six strings.
Visually, the MD70e honours traditional Bluegrass aesthetics with open-gear nickel tuners, classic inlays, a premium tortoiseshell-style pickguard and a flawless gloss finish. Fitted with the LR Baggs HiFi pickup system, it offers premium acoustic tone whether you’re playing on stage or in the studio. Its power, projection, and tonal breadth make it an instrument that’s genuinely hard to put down.
About the Alvarez Masterworks Series
Every Masterworks guitar is built entirely from solid wood to maximise tonal depth, resonance, and responsiveness. Top thickness, bracing design, back construction and careful wood selection all play a vital role in shaping the voice of each instrument.
The FS6 bracing system—a forward-shifted, scalloped X—creates more active soundboard area around the bridge, resulting in greater vibration, richer dynamics and exceptional articulation. Combined with AAA soundboards and premium components, Masterworks guitars deliver an inspiring, powerful voice with remarkable clarity.
All acoustic-electric Masterworks models feature the LR Baggs HiFi system, a non-invasive design using dual bridge-plate sensors and high-fidelity electronics. This pickup offers outstanding balance, definition and feedback resistance, while its studio-quality preamp provides a refined plug-and-play experience.
Every Masterworks instrument ships with the durable AFC30 Flexicase for added protection.
Our Build Philosophy
Wood selection is at the heart of every Alvarez guitar. All solid tops are hand-selected and graded to ensure only the highest-quality pieces are used. Our laminated back and side construction uses a unique three-layer design with a mahogany core and matched outer and inner layers for optimal tone and strength.
Our focus on stability, resonance and longevity is supported by a long-developed curing process. Each piece of solid wood—and the mahogany used for our necks—undergoes months or even years of seasoning. After this, we apply our ATR (Advanced Tonal Response) thermo-kiln process, a specialised form of torrefaction that removes moisture, sap and volatiles from the wood.
ATR serves two key purposes:
• It boosts structural stability, helping the guitar resist movement caused by dry or humid climates.
• It enhances tone immediately, making the instrument sound more open, resonant and mature—similar to the natural ageing process that improves guitars over many years.
The result is an instrument with exceptional clarity, quicker response, and more complex overtones from day one.
