The Futura Explorer Custom brings Epiphone's interpretation of the Gibson® Explorer® – a shape with genuine historical weight – into modern production at an accessible price point. First sketched in the late 1950s as a futuristic departure from conventional designs, the Explorer gained cult status among rock and metal players worldwide. This mahogany–bodied version preserves that angular identity whilst layering in contemporary hardware and electronics: a LockTone® Tune–O–Matic® bridge, LockTone Stop Bar tailpiece, and a Modern C profile neck engineered for sustained playability across both chording and lead work.
Construction centres on a solid mahogany body with multi–ply top and back binding, topped by a glued–in mahogany neck carrying an ebony fingerboard with 22 stainless steel medium jumbo frets and a 10–14 inch compound radius for smooth action across the full 628.65 mm scale. Epiphone's ProBucker® Ignite humbuckers drive the electronics, with push/pull controls unlocking coil–splitting and phase options for tonal range beyond standard configurations. Hardware includes locking Grover® Mini Rotomatic® tuners, Graph Tech® nut, and Posi–Lok® strap buttons. The Firestorm Shift colour–shifting finish provides genuine visual distinction on stage and on screen.
The push/pull coil–split and phase switching arrangement unlocks single–coil textures and out–of–phase tonal colours from a traditional humbucker platform, useful for both studio layering and live performance versatility. Bound headstock and fingerboard with pearloid inlays signal build quality consistent with instruments at higher price points. Shipped with a gig bag, the Futura Explorer Custom suits players pursuing distinctive tone without compromise on durability or tuning stability.
