Gibson 1971 Flying V Medallion Reissue (Medallion Cherry) inc Hard Case

Gibson Custom brings back the 1971 Flying V Medallion Reissue in Medallion Cherry, a faithful recreation of the rare model that shaped hard rock in the hands of Michael Schenker and remains a highlight of Kirk Hammett's collection. Only around 350 Medallion Flying Vs were made in 1971 to commemorate the 1972 Olympics, each with an individually numbered gold medallion on the bass–side wing. This reissue features a two–piece mahogany body measuring approximately 1.375" thick – slightly thinner than the original 1958 Korina models – reducing weight and improving comfort.

The three–piece mahogany neck carries the authentic 1971 Flying V profile, thin and fast–playing, reinforced with a period–correct volute and capped with a one–piece rosewood fretboard. Twenty–two Authentic medium jumbo frets and cellulose dot inlays match the original spec. Genuine T–Top humbucker pickups with Alnico 5 magnets deliver the bright, powerful tone vintage T–Tops are known for, left unpotted and hand–wired to individual volume controls and a master tone. Hardware includes Kluson double–ring tuners with keystone buttons, Corian nut, Historic Reissue wired ABR–1 bridge, and Historic Reissue Stop Bar tailpiece, all chrome–plated.

The 1.5" diameter gold medallion bears the Gibson logo and Limited Edition Model text, individually numbered just as the originals were. Black Witch Hat knobs with silver reflectors top the volume and tone controls. A Gibson Custom hardshell case is included for transport and storage. This marks the first time Medallion Flying Vs have been reissued since 1971, aside from the recent Michael Schenker Collector's Edition, giving players access to a model that defined an era.
