The Gibson J-45 Standard Goldtop is a round-shoulder dreadnought acoustic with over eight decades of provenance. First introduced in 1942, the J-45 remains Gibson's best-selling acoustic model and defines the sound standard for this body shape–warm, balanced tone with full projection and tight bass response. The Goldtop finish pairs solid Sitka spruce on the top with solid mahogany back and sides, bound in multi-ply and single-ply respectively, anchored by a compound dovetail neck joint engineered for superior sustain and tonal transfer.
Construction centres on a fast-profile mahogany neck with a 20-fret rosewood fretboard dressed in mother-of-pearl dot markers. Grover® Rotomatic® tuning machines and a TUSQ® nut deliver stable, repeatable tuning across the headstock’s Gibson logo inlay. The rosewood belly-up bridge sits atop a gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish and mounts a TUSQ saddle with matching bridge pins. An L.R. Baggs™ VTC under-saddle pickup and preamp system integrates volume and tone controls into the soundhole, keeping electronics hidden from view whilst remaining stage and studio-ready straight from the hardshell case.
