Eight David Dearden-designed console preamps drawn directly from the legendary ASP8024-HE console form the analogue core of the Audient Horizon 8P 24-Input/32-Output TB3 Audio Interface w/ 8 x Preamps, a flagship Thunderbolt 3 interface delivering 0.99ms round-trip latency at 192kHz and elite ESS 32-bit AD/DA conversion with 133dB of dynamic range. Built for macOS only, this 1RU interface combines 24 inputs and 32 outputs with hardware-driven ORBIT variable impedance control, allowing engineers to reshape microphone character at the analogue stage by toggling between High (2.8kΩ), Mid (1.2kΩ), and Low (220Ω) impedance settings. Each preamp delivers 75dB of gain through discrete components, capturing signals with true analogue integrity before hitting flagship ES9823PRO and ES9039 converters backed by ultra-low noise OPA1602 and OPA1612 op-amps for surgical transient precision. The interface routes 8 channels of line I/O via industry-standard Tascam-pinout DB25 connectors, while dual ADAT I/O adds 16 channels of digital expansion and BNC word clock I/O with switchable internal termination ensures rock-solid sync in complex rigs. Two dedicated JFET instrument inputs on channels 1 and 2 provide authentic valve amp input stage character without external DI boxes, and dual speaker outputs enable A/B monitor comparison through dedicated hardware switching. Horizon Control software and the full-colour Motion UI hardware display provide total routing matrix control, independent ultra-low latency cue mixes for every performer, and selectable reference levels (+18dBu, +24dBu) for calibrating I/O to match outboard gear sweet spots. The unified macOS driver supports expansion up to 200 x 200 I/O across four units, maintaining forward compatibility with Thunderbolt 4 and 5 whilst minimising CPU overhead through direct PCIe-speed connectivity. Professional monitor control delivers mono, polarity inverse, dim, and reference level functions alongside flexible talkback via dedicated hardware input or Mac internal microphone, plus dual high-current headphone outputs with massive headroom for high-impedance studio headphones. The rugged 1RU full-metal chassis measures 48.3cm wide by 33cm deep by 4.45cm tall, weighing 4.15kg, with high-efficiency fanless cooling for silent operation in machine-room-free control rooms. Sweepable high-pass filtering (25Hz-250Hz), -10dB pad, and independent per-channel 48V phantom power accompany digital recall for saving and recalling exact gain settings across sessions, whilst preamp bypass enables direct-to-converter signal paths for external boutique preamps integrated via DB25 connectivity.
