The Earthworks Audio DK7 Gen 2 is the industry standard drum microphone kit, engineered for capture across live stages, studios, and broadcast streaming applications. Built on three decades of microphone design expertise, Earthworks' second-generation platform maintains the sonic character that made the original essential while addressing real-world usability challenges. Enhanced isolation, tighter polar patterns, and superior rejection of cymbal bleed distinguish this seven-piece system from category competitors.
The kit pairs tom and snare mics—including the DM20 Gen 2 with cardioid response spanning 20Hz–20kHz and the SR25 Gen 2 supercardioid with extended presence peak to 25kHz—alongside the omnidirectional DM6 overhead condenser. New hardened active electronics reduce phantom power draw and introduce hot-swap protection, while revised rim-mounting hardware accelerates setup and teardown. The bundled SKB road case is lighter and more compact than its predecessor, with improved durability and pack efficiency. All capsules feature stainless-steel construction rated for 48V phantom power at 6–6.5mA draw.
Real-world field deployment informed the redesign: engineers report dramatically reduced cross-talk between drums, eliminating the need for aggressive sidechain compression on cymbals and freeing individual toms onto separate mixing buses. The refined mechanical coupling system works across standard and non-traditional percussion setups, making the kit equally suited to touring rigs and fixed installation contexts where compatibility and reliability matter.
