The Audio Technica ATV-SG1 is a battery–powered shotgun microphone engineered for DSLR, mirrorless, and compact camera rigs. Audio Technica's 60–plus years developing broadcast and content–creation audio inform this design, which pairs a highly directional 100 mm acoustic tube with a newly redesigned 14 mm large–diameter diaphragm to isolate dialogue and primary sound sources while rejecting ambient noise.
The mic's fixed–charge condenser element captures frequencies from 60–20,000 Hz with a 77 dB signal–to–noise ratio at maximum gain and supports a 37 dB stepless gain range for precise on–the–fly control. An integrated shock mount absorbs handling vibration and camera movement; Audio Technica's patented noise–immunity circuit blocks RF and hum interference from smartphones. A 160 Hz low–cut filter attenuates wind, traffic, and HVAC rumble. The safety track feature records a backup audio channel at –6 dB alongside the main mix, protecting against unexpected level spikes. An external 3.5 mm input jack accepts plug–in–powered lavalier mics or wireless receivers.
The built–in lithium–ion battery (3.85 V DC) sustains approximately 24 hours of continuous operation and charges via USB Type–C in roughly 2.5 hours. The 12–sided shoe mount rotates in 30–degree increments and slides along a rail for flexible positioning, keeping the mic out of frame or accommodating additional camera accessories. Weight is approximately 155 g; the included wind muff provides supplementary protection in outdoor environments.
