A Review By 2020 Review Master: Rob Cash

Hi Shakers and Movers,

This is my review of a wonderful preloved product from Musicorp Australia, the Yamaha MG10XU. And once again it doesn’t disappoint in quality, value and usefulness for the avid home hobbyist use in live and home studio mixing and recording interfaces.

Hey, I love Yamaha products. I already own a bigger brother of this unit and love it’s pure quality of sound and responsiveness. I am not paid by Musicorp Australia (damn!) so this is a usual unbiased opinion post on the product in both use and value to the owner.

Those of you reading this, know by now the value of using a quality interface for your in-home or live use as a musician, for someone who wants to record themselves or someone else. However as far as the recording latency is concerned, I prefer my preloved Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 2nd Generation product over this. However, as the Focusrite does not have an inbuilt supply of control over compression, and additional effects such as reverbs, echo’s plate effects, the little ripper of the Yamaha MG10XU will help to complete your total requirements for a home studio at a very affordable price. Once again, I will place all of the specs and links to both Yamaha and Musicorp Australia at the end of this review.

Not to forget also, that you get a free copy of Cubase Ai/Le to complete your total start out pack, and all that’s required are a microphone, maybe guitars or keyboard instruments to make the next hit on the radio.

I don’t want to bore you with all of the specs, but let me elaborate on why this little genius is a great buy! Let’s start with its USB connectivity to your computer, which makes it a great little audio interface as mentioned above re the Focusrite unit, you will get a lot of projects in recording music via the free DAW software from Steinberg.

The D-Pre mic inputs are quality and you’ll be able to tweak your vocal sound to a great level in your recordings. You have dial up Yamaha compression on the first two channels on the mixer, and that helps you boost the lows in vocal work to a more even level, without over-clipping your mix, it’s a fantastic addition that relieves your computer’s processors from working too hard, and freeing up processors for other work. Complete control over with high, mid and bass knobs. I really could go on and on!

At about $8 a month this is a great addition to any arsenal you have in consideration.

I can’t really find anything bad to say about this unit, of course the more you spend the better you get usually, but a great starter it is.
